Rob McClanahan

Robert Bruce McClanahan ( born January 9, 1958 in Saint Paul, Minnesota ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player who in his playing days from 1976 to 1984 among others for the Buffalo Sabres, Hartford Whalers and New York Rangers of the National Hockey League played. Too great a reputation he came as a member of the U.S. national team, which was founded in 1980 Olympic champion.

Career

Rob McClanahan began his career as a hockey player at the University of Minnesota, which he attended from 1976 to 1979 while he was playing in parallel for their hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The 1979/80 season he began at Team USA, at the Olympic preparation he participated. After the Winter Olympics, he made his debut for the Buffalo Sabres, who had chosen him already in the NHL Amateur Draft 1978 in the third round than a total of 49 players. For Buffalo, he scored in his rookie year in the National Hockey League in 23 games two goals and six assists. In the 1980/81 season the winger played mostly for Buffalo in the NHL, but also came to some inserts for their farm team in Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.

The 1981/82 season began McClanahan at Hartford Whalers in the NHL, played in parallel but also for their AHL farm team Binghamton Whalers. On 2 February 1982 he was transferred in exchange for a tenth round option for the NHL Entry Draft in 1983 to the New York Rangers, where he was one of the leading players in the following one and a half years. After slower start to the 1983/84 season with the Rangers in the NHL, he was released into the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League. Following the season, he finished at the age of 26 years ahead of his career.

Internationally

For the U.S., McClanahan took part in the World Cup in 1979 and 1981 at the Canada Cup. In addition, he was in the squad of his country at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, where he won the gold medal with his team.
