Robert Brown (Scottish politician)

Robert Brown ( born December 25, 1947 in Newcastle upon Tyne ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Liberal Democrats.

Brown studied at the University of Aberdeen law and then worked as a solicitor and legal advisor. Between 1977 and 1992, Brown was chairman of the groups of the Liberal Party or the Liberal Democrats then in the Glasgow City Council. For the first time Brown walked up to the general election in October 1974 to vote in national elections. He was in his constituency Rutherglen ( Glasgow Rutherglen later ) but only 6.3% of the vote, the lowest share of the vote. His share of the vote, he was able to increase significantly, although at the lower house elections in 1979, 1983 and 1987, but missed each the direct mandate.

In the Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 Brown was a candidate for the constituency of Glasgow Rutherglen, but could not prevail against Janis Hughes of the Labour Party as well as the candidate of the SNP itself. On the basis of the election result Brown received but the only mandate of the regional election list for the Liberal Democrats in the election Glasgow Area and moved into the newly created Scottish Parliament. In the parliamentary elections in 2003 and 2007, he ran again in each case for Glasgow Rutherglen, however, was able to record only the second - or third-highest number of votes for themselves. He drew back as each list candidate of the constituency in parliament. In the 2011 elections, he lost his parliamentary seat.
