Robert Cullen (footballer)

Robert Cullen (Japaneseカレン ロバート, Karen Robato; born June 7, 1985 in Tsuchiura ) is a Japanese football player.

Career

Cullen grew up the son of a Japanese mother and one was from Northern Ireland British father. In his youth he played in the team of the Municipal High School Funabashi and was followed by two years at Kashiwa Reysol, before he moved to the J. League 2004 Júbilo Iwata. Here was the 1.80 meter tall striker, who also acts like an offensive outside in midfield, on 5 March 2004 his professional debut in the match against Oita Trinita. In his second season, 2005, he scored 13 goals in 31 games and was named the best young player of the J. League ( Rookie of the Year ) chosen; this achievement he was unable to build again in the following years. For the 2010 season, he joined the second division Roasso Kumamoto.

The end of 2010 and beginning of 2011, Cullen was twice on trial in the Netherlands for VVV -Venlo. After the second test, he signed in January 2011, a two and half year deal with Ehrendivisionär, which already played his compatriot Maya Yoshida. He came in 15 games of the season and scored two goals for use; with two goals in the four games he Relegation contributed to the relegation of Venlo.

National

Cullen has already played in the Japanese U-19 national team. In 2004, he took her part in the Toulon Tournament and the Junior Asia Cup football. In 2005 he traveled with the U-20 national team for the Junior World Championships in 2005 in the Netherlands; it was used in all four games of the Japanese, among other things against the hosts. A goal he could not achieve this.

In the Olympic team in Japan, he came in qualifying for the Olympic football tournament in 2008 for use, however, was not in the squad for the Olympic Games in Beijing.
