Robert Jacob Lewis

Robert Jacob Lewis ( born December 30, 1864 in Dover, York County, Pennsylvania, † July 24, 1933 in Camden, Arkansas ) was an American politician. Between 1901 and 1903 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Robert Lewis attended the public schools in York. In 1883 he graduated from high school. In the following years until 1889 he taught as a teacher in the public schools of his home. After a subsequent law degree from Yale University and his 1891 was admitted to the bar he began in York to work in this profession. In the years 1893, 1897 and 1903 he was elected school commissioner ( School Controller) of the city of York. In 1895 he was also legal representatives of this city.

Politically, Lewis joined the Republican Party. In 1898 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress yet. In the elections of 1900, but he was then in the 19th Election District of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrat Edward Danner Ziegler on March 4, 1901. Since he resigned in 1902 to further candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1903.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Robert Lewis practiced as a lawyer again. He died on 24 July 1933, Camden.
