Robert Kocharyan

Robert Kocharian (Armenian Ռոբերտ Քոչարյան, scientific transliteration Robert K'oč'aryan; born August 31, 1954 in Stepanakert ) is a former President of Armenia.

Career

From 1972 to 1974 he did his military service in the Soviet Union. In 1981, he completed his electrical engineering degree in Yerevan. He was elected Prime Minister of the unrecognized Republic of Nagorno Karabakh in 1992, he previously served as a general in the army. In 1994 he went to the newly created Office of the President of Nagorno-Karabakh. In 1997, the non-party Kocharian Armenian Prime Minister was. In 1998 he won the early elections to the Armenian president. His re- election in 2003 was accompanied by irregularities. Since the Armenian constitution does not provide for a third term, he resigned from the office on April 9, 2008. His successor, the previous Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan was sworn. Kocharian is married and has three children. In his spare time, he plays a lot of sports.
