Geography

Rochelle is located at 41 ° 55'24 " north latitude and 89 ° 03'56 " west longitude and extends over 19.4 km ², which consist exclusively of land area. Through the town of Kyte River, approximately 30 km north-west flows into the Rock River.

The nearest large towns are Rockford (40,6 km to the north ), Chicago (130 km east), Ottawa (Illinois ) (91.5 km to the south ), the location on the Mississippi River in neighboring Clinton Iowa (106 miles west) and the Quad Cities (146 km southwest).

Transport and the economy

On the southern edge of Rochelle runs in east-west direction of Interstate 88 a few miles east of the city, extending in a north-south Interstate 39 (to which the U.S. Highway 51 runs here congruent ) crosses. In the center of Rochelle Illinois State Routes 38 and 251 meet together.

Rochelle is the junction of several railway lines, Union Pacific Railroad and the BNSF Railway. At the railway history remembers the museum Rochelle Railroad Park. In Rochelle locomotives were manufactured by Whitcomb Locomotive Works until 1952.

In Rochelle is located since 2003 with Global III Intermodal Facility, a modern container station of the Union Pacific Railroad.

South of the town is the Rochelle Municipal Airport.

Hub City

In the past, enjoyed the reputation as Rochelle Hub City because here always crossed several major traffic routes. The Lincoln Highway, the first transcontinental road link from coast to coast led by Rochelle, where the Highway 51 crossing one of the longest north-south connections. Within the city tick today two important railway lines of the BNSF Railway and the Union Pacific Railroad.

Even the local sporting clubs are called 'hubs'.

Demographic data
