Roger Hägglund

Roger Hägglund ( born July 2, 1961 in Umeå, † June 6, 1992 ) was a Swedish professional ice hockey player who has played in its active period from 1977 to 1992, including for the Nordiques de Québec in the National Hockey League.

Career

Roger Hagglund began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at IF Björklöven for whose first team he 1977/78 his debut in Division 1, the Swedish second division was in the season. With his team, he popped straight up in the Elitserien, where he Junior, the best Swedish junior player, was in the 1978/79 season Årets. In the season 1981/82 the center with Björklöven was runner-up. For the season 1983/84 he was bound by its domestic rivals Västra Frölunda. Then his transfer rights were sold in July 1984 by the St. Louis Blues, who had chosen him already in the NHL Entry Draft in 1980 in the seventh round as a total of 138 players, the Nordiques de Québec. In the season 1984/85 he came to a total of three appearances for Quebec in the National Hockey League, but the entire rest of the game time spent at their farm team in Fredericton Express of the American Hockey League, for whom he gave five assists in 34 games.

In the summer of 1985 Hägglund returned to his hometown club IF Björklöven. With this he became Swedish Champion in the 1986/87 season. After he was runner-up again in the following season with the team, he went with Björklöven in the 1988/89 season in the Division 1 from. The Swede remained loyal to the team in the following years and played for them for another three years in the Swedish second division. On June 6, 1992, he died at the age of 30 years following a traffic accident. His jersey number 23 has since no longer awarded in memory of him in IF Björklöven.

Internationally

For Hägglund Sweden took part in the U18 European Junior Championships in 1979 and the U20 World Youth Championship in 1981 at junior level. In the 1981 U20 World Cup, he became world champion with his team. In the senior level, he stood in his country's squad at the World Championships in 1982 and 1983.
