Roland Fischnaller (alpine skier)

Roland Fischnaller ( born June 14, 1975 in Funes ) is an Italian former Alpine skier. The South Tyrolean specialized in the speed disciplines Downhill and Super -G.

Career

In 1994 Fischnaller took part in the Junior World Championships in Lake Placid, his best result there was 24th place in the downhill. In the European Cup he reached on 11 December 1995 with the second place in the downhill in Val Gardena his first podium. Five days later, he also started in Val Gardena in his first World Cup race, finishing in 42 rank departure. In the coming years, but followed only a few bets in the World Cup, he focused mainly on the European Cup. There he was on 21 January 1999 in the departure of Falcade celebrate his first and only victory and reached two other top ten places to second place in the downhill standings. With this success, he secured a Fixstartplatz in the World Cup and was promoted to the Italian A-team. In the super -G, he also came twice in the top ten and finished sixth in the final standings.

From the season 1999/2000 Fischnaller started regularly in the World Cup. At the exit of Wengen on January 15, 2000, he reached the first rank in the top 30, two more times succeeded in March 2000 Kvitfjell with rank 23 in the downhill and 27th place in the Super-G. At the beginning of the season 2000/ 01 he came into the first five races not in the points, all the more surprising then succeeded him on 16 December 2000, his greatest World Cup success: In the descent of Val d'Isere, the Italian went with start number 47 behind his teammates Alessandro Fattori and Kristian Ghedina to third place.

From now on Fischnaller was never able to regularly place in the points, the success of Val d'Isere but repeat. In the 2001 /02 season he succeeded on December 28th in the downhill in Bormio with the ninth place his second-best World Cup result. In February 2002 he took part in the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and finished second in downhill and super -G in each case as best Italian Ranked 17th In the 2003 World Cup in St. Moritz, he reached only the 27th rank in the Super -G. Three weeks later, he succeeded to the twelfth place in the downhill in Garmisch- Partenkirchen his best World Cup result this season.

In the 2003 /04 season Fischnaller placed three times in the top 15 and was Italian Champion in downhill, in the next World Cup season he reached but only once the points. In January 2006, he finished second in the downhill from Wengen at least the 15th Place and went a week later in Kitzbühel ranked 16th His last good World Cup result succeeded in the downhill in Bormio on 29 December 2006, where he once again ranked twelfth reached.

On 13 January 2007, Fischnaller moved to the downhill from Wengen to a torn ACL and had to end the season prematurely.
