Falcade

Falcade ( Ladin Falciade ) is a municipality with 2046 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Belluno, Veneto region, southwest of Cortina d' Ampezzo. It is since the middle of the 20th century an important tourist resort of the Dolomites in summer and winter.

The Law 482/1999 has recognized the communities of Agordino as an area with Ladin minority.

Location

Falcade lies in the valley of the BioIS, a tributary of the Cordevole, between the rocky mountains of the Marmolada in the north and the Pale di San Martino in the south. To the east of the Talmündung at Cencenighe Agordino is the Civetta, which is also visible from Falcade from. To the west it goes up to the Passo di San Pellegrino, where the torrent arises and the border is to Trentino and transition to the Fassa Valley.

The neighboring municipalities are Agordo, Moena, Rocca Pietore, Soraga and Tonadico.

Attractions

  • The Gothic church of S. Fabiano e Sebastiano from the late 15th century with a tower from 1884 contains a wooden crucifix by Giovanni Marchiori and a Baroque altarpiece, which is the Tiepolo students Valentino Rovisi ( Moena, 1715-1783 ) attributed.
  • From Falcade the painter and sculptor Augusto Murer came ( 1922-1985 ). In his former studio is now a museum.
  • Around Falcade in the valley of BioIS over 300 historic barns with hay ground ( Ladin: tabiài ) have received. The oldest date from the 17th century, the younger of the 1950s.
  • The striking new parish church of the church, which is consecrated to the Immaculate Conception of Mary, was begun in the years 1933/1934 and completed in 1947. The architect was Achille Vettorazzo who has a similar church in Marcon built. The oversized building stands on a former military cemetery, which had to be laid and from which a small chapel remains.

Culture

Every year is celebrated with a traditional festival at the end of September, the cattle drive ( la Desmontegheda ).

Tourist infrastructure and sports

In the summer, hikers and mountain bikers will find an extensive network of trails, cableways and chairlifts, for example, to Almgebiet Le Buse ( 1,885 m ) and further to Laresei ( 2,168 m).

In winter the valley of BioIS for cross-country skiing is suitable. Approx. 10 km trail are expanded, and there is a school for Sci Nordico. Downhill skiers Falcade with the Passo di San Pellegrino and the area around Moena to the ski area Tre Valli is partnered with about 100 km of pistes, which in turn constitutes part of the initiative Dolomiti Superski.
