Pieve di Cadore

Pieve di Cadore is a town with 3956 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Belluno, Italy. It is situated in 878 m at the confluence of the rivers Piave (from Auronzo ) and Boite ( Cortina d' Ampezzo ). The community is made up next to the main town from the villages NEBBIU, Pozzale, Sottocastello and Tai di Cadore.

The city is the birthplace of Titian, whose alleged birthplace can be visited. The town had a station on the railway Dolomites.

History

The area at the confluence of the Piave and Boite was inhabited prehistoric. The Romans conquered the paläovenetische precursor Lagole settlement in the 2nd century BC.
