Vallada Agordina

Vallada Agordina ( Ladin: La Valada ) is a municipality ( comune ) with 503 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the province of Belluno in the Italian region Veneto. Vallada Agordina comprises the villages of Mas, Celat, Sachet, Andrich, Toffol ( Ladin: Tofol ) Piaz and Cogul and lies in the valley of the river BioIS on the Strada Provinciale ( provincial road ) SP346, about 110 km north- west of Venice, 35 km north-west Belluno and 40 km southeast of Bolzano.

The Law 482/1999 has recognized the communities of Agordino as an area with Ladin minority.

The population has been increasing since the 1920s, from resistant and was in December 2010 at 515 residents. Tourism is in contrast to the neighboring communities and villages only a very minor role, although there through the good transport links ( Dolomiti ) bus direct access to the adjacent ski areas.

Importance acquired Vallada Agordina to some extent by its history and architecture. The community is dominated by its Ladin culture and traditions. Characteristic are the many old barns are ( Ladin: tabiai ). In addition to preserved houses from the 17th century, there are a number of churches:

  • San Simon, as important building. San Simon built on the site of a simple chapel built in the 8th century. A church was mentioned at this point already in 1185. The church was probably in 1549, by Paris Bordone painted with frescoes.

Active in the Val Biois the Union ladina Val Biois and Gruppo Folk Val Biois, committed to the preservation of the Ladin language and culture.
