Castellavazzo

Castellavazzo ( until the end of 2011 more Castello Lavazzo ) is a Northeast Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1607 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Belluno in Veneto. The municipality is situated approximately 18 km south-southwest of Belluno at the Piave, belongs to the Comunità Montana Cadore Longaronese Zoldo and directly borders the province of Pordenone (Friuli- Venezia Giulia ).

History

On October 9, 1963, a disaster occurred in the village in the district of Vajont Codissago as the dam of the reservoir broke and about 2,000 people died. The local council of Castellavazzo has officially demanded the first town in the Veneto region to hold a referendum on the independence of Veneto in line with Scotland, Catalonia and Kosovo.

Traffic

Passing through the municipality Strada Statale 51 di Alemagna San Vendemiano after Dobbiaco. The train station of Castellavazzo on the railway line Belluno - Calalzo is no longer operated.
