Roma (Lisbon Metro)

Roma is an underground station of the Linha Verde the Lisbon Metro, the underground network of the Portuguese capital. The station is located south of the road crossing Avenida de Roma / Avenida dos Estados Unidos da América in the Lisbon municipality Alvalade. The neighboring stations are Alvalade and Areeiro. The station went on 18 June 1972 in operation. It is official, despite a long footpath of 220 meters, a transfer possibility for regional and suburban railway station Roma Areeiro.

History

Metro Station Roma was put into operation on June 18, 1972 in connection with the opening track Anjos - Alvalade. This opening represented the last block of the second construction phase of the Lisbon Metro, which included now a network of a total of twenty stations between Sete Rios Entre Campos and Alvalade.

The station itself had in his opening two 70 -meter-long side platforms, which were sufficient for operation with a four-car trains. For the station design, the architect Dinis Gomes was responsible, he also designed the neighboring stations in a similar design. Here too, the azulejos artist Maria Keil was responsible for the artistic design, which in his own words, drew his inspiration in a brick factory. She chose light blue and white circles on a dark blue ground, intersected by diagonal lines.

In the following decades, relatively little change in the station. During the construction of the station was made ​​to transfer possibilities to other non-urban transport hardly consideration, so that the suburban and regional train station Roma Areeiro the Linha de Cintura lies exactly between the two stations and Roma Areeiro. Due to high cost of a possible tunnel, the passengers are forced today to cope with the Umsteigeweg along the road. So that in future be able to use a longer train compositions on the Linha Verde, the Metropolitano de Lisboa decided EPE to extend all platforms of the stations as part of refurbishments. Construction work on the railway station Roma found in 2006 under the direction of architect Ana Nascimento, while the platforms were extended in a southerly direction, so as to shorten the Umsteigeweg to the suburban station. The two artists Lourdes de Castro and René Bertholo were also commissioned to raise with regard to the design of the station on the artistic level of other Lisbon metro stations. Part of the Keil'schen Azulejos in the north access could be obtained during renovation. As part of the renovation of the station also received two elevators.
