Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Accra

The Archdiocese of Accra (Latin: Archidioecesis Accraënsis ) is a location in Ghana Roman Catholic diocese based in Accra. It comprises the Greater Accra Region.

History

Pope Pius XII. founded the Apostolic Prefecture of Accra on December 2, 1943 annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Gold Coast. With the Apostolic Constitution Si Evangélicos fructus it was raised on June 12, 1947 Apostolic Vicariate.

With the bull Laeto accepimus it was raised on 18 April 1950 in the rank of diocese and it was the Archdiocese of Cape Coast assumed as suffragan. With the bull Quae maiori it was collected on July 6, 1992 in the rank of Metropolitanerzbistums. On July 6, 1992, lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the Diocese of Koforidua.
