Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cuenca

The Archdiocese of Cuenca (Latin: Archidioecesis Conchensis in Aequatore, Spanish: Arquidiócesis de Cuenca ) is a located in Ecuador Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Cuenca.

History

The Archdiocese of Cuenca was founded on July 1, 1786 by Pope Pius VI. built out of territory of the diocese of Quito Cuenca as diocese and the Archdiocese of Lima, is a suffragan. The diocese of Cuenca announced on May 28, 1803 from parts of its territory to the foundation of the diocese Maynas. On January 13, 1848, the diocese of Cuenca was the Archdiocese of Quito is a suffragan. The diocese of Cuenca announced on December 29, 1862 from parts of its territory to the founding of the dioceses Loja and Bolívar.

On April 9, 1957, the diocese of Cuenca by Pope Pius XII was. charged with the Apostolic Constitution quasi mater to an archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Cuenca was on June 26, 1968 from parts of its territory to the foundation of the diocese Azogues.
