Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Fianarantsoa

The Archdiocese of Fianarantsoa (Latin: Archidioecesis Fianarantsoaensis ) is a location in Madagascar Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Fianarantsoa.

History

The Archdiocese of Fianarantsoa was established on May 10, 1913 by Pope Pius X. territorial concessions from the Apostolic Vicariate of Central Madagascar as Apostolic Vicariate of Fianarantsoa. The Apostolic Vicariate of Fianarantsoa announced on June 18, 1935 from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture Vatomandry. Other annexations took place on January 8, 1938 establishing the Apostolic Vicariate Antsirabé and the Apostolic Prefecture of Morondava.

On September 14, 1955, the Apostolic Vicariate of Fianarantsoa was by Pope Pius XII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Dum Tantis to the diocese and the Archdiocese assumed Tananarive suffragan. The Diocese of Fianarantsoa was posted on December 11, 1958 by Pope John XXIII. raised to an archbishopric. On April 9, 1968, the Archdiocese of Fianarantsoa were parts of its territory from the foundation of the diocese Mananjary. A further transfer of territory took place on 3 June 1999 foundation of the diocese Ambositra.
