Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Yaoundé

The Archdiocese of Yaoundé (Latin: Archidioecesis Yaundensis ) is a Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

History

Pope Leo XIII. founded the Apostolic Prefecture of Cameroon on 18 March 1890 annexations of the Apostolic Prefecture of two guineas. On January 2, 1905, they became the Apostolic Vicariate. On June 12, 1923 This part of its territory lost to the Apostolic Prefecture Buéa and on March 31, 1931, the Apostolic Prefecture of Douala. Using the Breve Sub anulo Piscatoris took it on April 3, 1931, the name Vicariate Apostolic of Yaoundé. On 3 March 1949, lost part of its territory to the Apostolic Vicariate Doumé.

The survey was carried out to Metropolitanerzbistum on September 14, 1955, the Apostolic Constitution Dum Tantis. On June 24, 1961 July 6, 1965 and 3 July 1987, lost more parts of its territory to the diocese of Mbalmayo, the Apostolic Prefecture Bafia and to the diocese Obala.
