Roman Catholic Diocese of Aizawl

The Diocese of Aizawl (Latin: Dioecesis Aizavlensis ) is a located in India Roman Catholic diocese based in Aizawl.

History

Pope Pius XII. founded the Apostolic Prefecture of Haflong with the Apostolic Constitution Fit nonnumquam on January 17, 1952 from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Dhaka and Chittagong diocese.

On 26 June 1969 she was elevated to the bishopric of Silchar which was the Archdiocese of Guwahati - Shillong assumed as suffragan. A part of its territory it lost on December 5, 1983 to the Diocese of Diphu.

On January 11, 1996, there was another piece of land for the erection of the Diocese of Agartala from, it moved the episcopal see from Silchar to Aizawl and took on its current name.

Territory

The Diocese of Aizawl comprises the entire state of Mizoram and the districts of Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj in Assam.
