Roman Catholic Diocese of Lisala

The diocese Lisala (Latin: Dioecesis Lisalaensis ) is a location in the Democratic Republic of the Congo Roman Catholic diocese based in Lisala.

History

The diocese Lisala was on April 3, 1919 by Pope Benedict XV. built with the apostolic constitution Quae catholico nomini of annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Léopoldville as Apostolic Vicariate of Nouvelle- Anvers. On February 11, 1924, the Apostolic Vicariate of Nouvelle- Anvers were parts of its territory from establishing the Apostolic Prefecture Tsuapa. A further transfer of territory took place on July 28, 1926 establishing the Apostolic Prefecture Basankusu. On January 27, 1936, the Apostolic Vicariate of Nouvelle- Anvers was by Pope Pius XI. renamed with the Apostolic Constitution Litteris Apostolicis in Apostolic Vicariate Lisala. The Apostolic Vicariate of Lisala announced on 14 June 1951 from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture Isangi.

On November 10, 1959, the Apostolic Vicariate of Lisala was by Pope John XXIII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Cum parvulum to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Mbandaka - Bikoro a suffragan. The diocese Lisala announced on November 25, 1964 from parts of its territory to the foundation of the diocese Budjala.
