Roman Catholic Diocese of Meru

The Diocese of Meru (Latin: Dioecesis Meruensis ) is located in Kenya Diocese of the Roman Catholic church located in Meru.

History

Pope Pius XI. founded the Apostolic Prefecture Meru with the Breve tanquam sublimi on March 10, 1926 annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Nyeri. With the Apostolic Constitution Progreditur conti enter a charge was made on 7 May 1953 to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Nairobi assumed as suffragan.

On 21 May 1990, it was part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Nyeri.

Parts of its territory it lost in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:

  • February 20, 1956 at the Prefecture Apostolic of Kitui;
  • December 9, 1976 at the Prefecture Apostolic of Garissa;
  • June 9, 1986 to the bishopric of Embu;
  • December 15, 1995 at the Apostolic Vicariate of Isiolo.

The Diocese of Meru Meru Central district includes the province of Eastern.
