Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Nyeri

The Archdiocese of Nyeri (Latin: Archidioecesis Nyeriensis ) is a location in Kenya Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Nyeri.

History

The Archdiocese of Nyeri was born on September 14, 1905 as a mission sui by Pope Pius X from annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate Nordsansibar juris Kenya built. On 12 July 1909, the mission was sui juris Kenya by Pius X with the Apostolic Constitution Supremi Apostolatus raised to Apostolic Vicariate. The Apostolic Vicariate of Kenya said on March 10, 1926 from parts of its territory for the establishment of the Apostolic Prefecture of Meru. On March 10, 1926, the Apostolic Vicariate of Kenya was renamed Vicariate Apostolic Nyeri.

The Apostolic Vicariate of Nyeri was born on March 25, 1953 by Pope Pius XII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Quemadmodum ad Nos to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Nairobi is a suffragan. On November 25, 1964, the Diocese of Nyeri were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Marsabit. A further transfer of territory took place on 17 March 1983 establishing the bishopric of Muranga.

On 21 May 1990, the diocese of Nyeri was elevated to an archdiocese by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Cum in Keniana. The Archdiocese of Nyeri was on December 5, 2002 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Nyahururu.
