Roman Catholic Diocese of Saint-Louis du Sénégal

The Diocese of Saint- Louis du Sénégal (Latin: Sancti Ludovici Dioecesis senegalensis ) is a location in Senegal Roman Catholic diocese based in Saint- Louis. It covers the three regions of Saint- Louis, Louga and Matam.

History

Pope Clement XIII. founded the Apostolic Prefecture Sénégal from 1763 cession of territory of the Diocese of Funchal. On January 27, 1936 with the Apostolic Constitution Non semel Apostolica took the name, Apostolic Prefecture of Saint- Louis du Sénégal, at.

On February 15, 1966, she was charged with the Bull, Christi Ecclesia to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Dakar assumed as suffragan.

Parts of its territory it lost in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:

  • May 6, 1931 at the mission sui juris Gambia;
  • December 18, 1965 to the Diocese of Nouakchott;
  • August 13, 1970 at the Prefecture Apostolic of Tambacounda.
