Roman Catholic Diocese of Sambalpur

The Diocese of Sambalpur (Latin: Dioecesis Sambalpurensis ) is a located in India Roman Catholic diocese based in Sambalpur.

History

Pope Pius XII. founded it with the Apostolic Constitution Novarum dioecesium on June 14, 1951 from annexations of the dioceses of Nagpur, Ranchi and the Archdiocese of Calcutta, where it was assumed as a suffragan.

On 4 July 1979, lost part of its territory to the diocese of Rourkela.

Territory

The Diocese of Sambalpur comprises the districts of Balangir, Sambalpur and Dhenkanal in the state of Odisha.
