Roman Catholic Diocese of Zacapa y Santo Cristo de Esquipulas

The Diocese of Zacapa (Latin: Dioecesis Zacapensis ) is located in Guatemala Roman Catholic diocese based in Zacapa. It comprises the departments Chiquimula and Zacapa.

History

Pope Pius XII. founded the bishopric of Zacapa on March 10 in 1951 of territory of the Archdiocese of Guatemala. On September 16, 1956, lost part of its territory to the Santo Cristo de Esquipulas Territorialprälatur and on April 30, 1968, there occurred a further part of the Apostolic Administration from Izabal.

Due to the Bull Qui per munere John Paul II she shares since 24 June 1986 the Santo Cristo de Esquipulas Territorialprälatur aeque principaliter the bishop.
