Roman Catholic Diocese of Huehuetenango

The Diocese of Huehuetenango (Latin: Dioecesis Gerontopolitanus ) is located in Guatemala Roman Catholic diocese based in Huehuetenango. It includes the Department of Huehuetenango.

History

Pope John XXIII. founded the Territorialprälatur Huehuetenango on 22 July in 1961 of territory of the Diocese of San Marcos, which was the Archbishopric of Guatemala is a suffragan.

On December 23, 1967, she was elevated to the bishopric. On February 13, 1996, it was part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Los Altos Quetzaltenango - Totonicapán.
