Ron Spanuth

Ron Spanuth (born 25 March 1980) is a former German cross-country skiers. He grew up in the Thuringian Ruhla.

Career

Spanuth, who coached at TSC Ruhla began at a young age with the ski jumping, but this was after several jumps in adolescence again. The Bundesskispielen 1993 in Lauscha he started in cross country and finished third. The following year he won in Reit im Winkl. Due to this success Spanuth moved to the sports high school Oberhof.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1997 in Canmore junior, he started for the first time internationally. He reached the 10th place out of 10 km in the classical style. The following year, at the Junior World Championships 1998 in Pontresina Spanuth just missed his first medal in fourth place over 10 km in free style. About 30 km in classical style, he landed on 15th place after the interim start in the Alpine Cup, he also launched again in 1999 at the Junior World Championships. However, he was in Saalfelden sea unable to repeat his performance from last year.

On 27 February 1999 Spanuth made ​​his debut in the Continental Cup cross-country skiing. Surprisingly, he landed in Pokljuka right away in second on the podium. At the beginning of the season 1999/2000 in Goms him his first victory succeeded. Two weeks later, on 27 December 1999 he gave his debut in Engelberg in the Cross Country World Cup. However, he could neither there, nor in Garmisch -Partenkirchen walk to the world class the next day.

At the Junior World Championships in 2000 in Štrbské Pleso he won in individual above 10 km the title and earn gold. About 30 km in classic style he was good fifth. In February 2000, in Ulrichen he just missed the points as 33.

In December 2000 Spanuth succeeded in the Continental Cup in Campra again a podium finish. A little later, in January 2001, he narrowly missed his first World Cup podium in fourth place at Soldier Hollow. Together with Jens Filbrich, Andreas Schlütter and René Sommerfeldt he was a little later at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2001 in Lahti, the third place in the relay. Here, this medal winning team managed only by the disqualification of the Finnish team due to doping. In the individual events he missed a run in the top. He was only 25 before he reached in the 20- km pursuit in individual 50 km rank 18.

In March 2001 he won in Falun and Kuopio once more World Cup points and ended the season at the 61st place overall.

At the age of 22, he retired from competitive sports to be there more for the family. Shortly before, he had met his new partner from Berlin holiday in Turkey, for their love, he finally gave up the sport.
