Ronald Gercaliu (2009)
Ronald Gercaliu ( born February 12, 1986 in Tirana, Albania) is an Austrian footballer of Albanian origin.
Career
Rise in storm
Ronald Gercaliu began his football career with nine years in the offspring of Partizani Tirana. In 1997 he moved to Styria and joined the youth department of the SK Sturm Graz at. There he went through all junior stations and increased in the 2004/05 season in the first team of the Bundesliga on.
Gercaliu plays since mostly on a nominal defender position, its radius of action extends far in the offensive. Especially on the left wing, he developed a great momentum in the forward movement due to its technical strength and his dribbling skills. However, he shows weaknesses in the accuracy of the flanks and the shots on goal. Defensively, its strengths lie in the tackle and in positional play.
Finally, one could in November 2005 to agree on a transfer fee and Gercaliu changed in the winter of 2005/2006 for FC Red Bull Salzburg, where he could, however, never take off. He was soon no longer considered by Hickersberger for the national team. In the course of withdrawals from service under the new Salzburg coaches Giovanni Trapattoni and Lothar Matthäus before the 2006/07 season also Gercaliu was encouraged to look for a new club. Then he returned - after a transfer had burst to Leeds United - on loan to his former club SK Sturm Graz back.
In winter 2006/ 07 Gercaliu was planning a move to Energie Cottbus, but due to a short insert at Red Bull Salzburg amateurs he could, according to FIFA regulations, not move abroad. This means that a player within a championship year must not be working for three clubs internationally. Gercaliu under then wrote on 3 January 2007, a contract with FK Austria Wien, as an inner- Austrian transfer was not affected by this rule.
In the violets he won immediately with the OFB Cup his first national title and made his comeback in the team against France. After Ronald Gercaliu was established themselves there as well, he was called on 28 May 2008 in the Austrian squad for the 2008 European Championship. For the season 2008/ 09 he moved back to the contractually required FC Red Bull Salzburg, where he comes from Co Adriaanse repeatedly inserts. At the end of the year the championship was brought, which for Gercaliu is the first of his career.
In the EURO 2008, he played in the first group match against Croatia 69 minutes before he was substituted for Ümit Korkmaz. In the other group games he did not play.
After 2008/ 09 was again champion with Salzburg changed the defender in the summer of 2009 in the Bundesliga for SC Magna Wiener Neustadt. Since late 2008, he was no longer nominated for the national team.
Suffering time at FC Ingolstadt 04
For the 2010/11 season he left the Austrian Bundesliga and moved to the German second division club FC Ingolstadt 04, where he signed a two-year contract. But not Gercaliu was hoped to gain. Already at the beginning of the preparation he fell out injured and had to undergo surgery on his knee. This injury forced him to an eight-month break. After that, he could no longer fight back in the team and only came to four inserts in the second team. He was told that you can not plan on using him for next season. However, no club who wanted to sign him found. Therefore, he remained at FC Ingolstadt. In the first half of the 2011/12 season he came back only to four inserts in the second team. On 16 February 2012, the contract was then dissolved by mutual consent.
Restart in Poland
On February 16, 2012 Gercaliu then signed a contract until the end of the season 2011/12 at the Polish first division ŁKS Łódź, after he was able to convince in a trial. There he came in the first few games after the winter break immediately as a regular player for use. However, he could despite good performances not avoid relegation.
Back in the 2nd Bundesliga
For the season 2012/13 undertook second division FC Erzgebirge Aue Gercaliu. He received a contract for two years until the end of June 2014.
Change to Romania
Beginning in January 2014 Gercalius contract was terminated in Aue. He moved into the sequence in the Romanian Liga 1 to Universitatea Cluj.
