Meanders in the stream course

The red is a left tributary of the digester of about 37 kilometers in the north of Baden- Württemberg, almost the whole length Swabian-Franconian pulls in an easterly to southeasterly direction through the nature park forest and ends at Gaildorf - Unterrot. To distinguish it from other rivers of the same name, some of which run quite close, it is sometimes called red spruce Berger.

Origin

The red is produced near the steep front of Keuper stage in the border area between Mainhardter forest and Löwenstein mountains, in the westward wedge of the expiring against the Wüstenroter Chausseehaus plateau of Mainhardter forest. There are given different stream origins, the nation official faces a reduction pit on the east side of the homestead Bernbach southward branching off from the main road 39 road to Wüstenrot ( 2102 K ) to about 495 m above sea level. NN. Up runs through a wet meadow or a drainage ditch next to the road house and the foot of Hackenberg's in the West, partly on maps drawn as a blue run, but from where the inflow is not resistant. Taking the upper end as red - origin, so this is approximately 499 m above sea level. NN. These two roads also dehydrate in damp weather over a ditch next to the K 2102 from the north to the official origin, at the junction of the B 39 is itself about 500 m above sea level. Sea level and rises to the west on to something else.

Approximately 800 meters to the east and bach down where a side road from Stollenhof south crosses the grave -like run in the consecration Bronner forest, there is a sign with the words " origin of the red " again to a different origin out of time on little below 485 m above sea. MSL.

Course

The Red then flows through roadless terrain below Finsterrot in southeastern direction. Here it crosses the 13 -acre nature reserve meadows in the red and Dachsbachstal at Finsterrot, the wet meadows were protected because of the presence of globe flowers and orchids. The natural riparian zones offer here also birds such as dippers and kingfishers sufficient nesting opportunities. After about 5.5 kilometers, the Red achieve Böhringsweiler.

Meanwhile, strengthened by numerous small streams from the Wüstenroter municipality, their course of human use is now accessible. The Red has dug in this section in a 60 meter deep, narrow valley and flows in an easterly direction. In Böhringsweiler the red briefly accompanied by a country road, then to a forest road. The Federal Highway 14 crosses the red valley between Großerlach and Main Hardt and thus provides an access to the popular hiking area. Marked bicycle paths accompany the course from now on to the mouth. On a long stretch of the river forms the municipal boundary between Großerlach and Main Hardt. From the economic useful witness the names Neusägmühle, hammer mill and the saw mill at the Rösersmühle. To date, built in the Middle Ages mills are the only settlements in the upper red valley. At the beginning of the 20th century discontinued Hankertsmühle the creek crossed once the limit; the fortlet Hankertsmühle secured there the border. When pigeons mill the valley widens rapidly, and within 17 km of a small town for the first time in Wielandsweiler achieved.

Here, after the first half of the river, the valley is much broader. From now on, the red flowing again to the southeast and is accompanied by a country road, the system led to the creation of Wielandsweiler until the 19th century. The settlement consists of individual mills, of which the hammer mill still has a remarkable large mill wheel to Oberrotweil. From Oberrotweil larger settlements determine the river. About the Upper Red Hausen the Red reached after about 29 kilometers Spruce Mountain.

From Spruce Mountain, the red to medium red and Unterrot the boiler flows to the east direction. Here the lower reaches of the valley is more important for the traffic, it is the eastern part of the transport corridor that runs between Backnang through the upper Bitzer on a low pass at the " ski jump " at Spruce mountain into the valley and then from here to Gaildorf in the Kocher; the busy state road 1066 and the railway line Waiblingen- Schwäbisch Hall Hessental run at this track next to each other from the Stuttgart region in the northeastern part of the country Baden -Württemberg.

At the level Mittelrot the longtime average discharge is 1.94 m³ / s (measured 1980-2003 ). Shortly after Unterrot opens the red after about 36 kilometers to 326 meters above sea level in the digester.
