Route of Megalithic Culture

The road of the megalithic culture is starting from 27 August 2013, a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe. Previously, she had only the character of a cottage street in Lower Saxony.

Since 27 August 2013, the road including their yet to be assigned sections is officially recognized as the Cultural Council of Europe. On this day the Danish part of the cultural route was inaugurated.

Section in Lower Saxony

The oldest section of the road of megalithic archaeological connects 33 stations of the megalithic culture with more than 70 megalithic sites from the middle phase of the Neolithic period ( 3500-2800 BC) in Lower Saxony.

This section extends over the area of Osnabrück, Ostercappeln, Belém - Vehrte, Wall Horst, Bramsche, Ankum, mountains, Bippen, Fuerstenau, Freren, Thuine, Lingen (Ems ), Meppen, Soegel, Werlte, Lastrup, Cloppenburg, Visbek, Großenkneten Wildeshausen, Dotlingen, Ganderkesee and Oldenburg. The purpose of the road

The road of the megalithic culture should contribute to a better understanding of the lifestyles of people who have lived over 5000 years ago in north-west Germany. At the 33 stations the tombs function or construction, the afterlife, the understanding of nature and everyday life are discussed. The Holiday Road leads in some cases, also the Bronze and Iron Age grave mound groups in recent times.
