Rund um Düren

The cycle race Rund um Düren is a one-day race, which will be held in Düren.

The race was from 2005 to 2006 the race calendar of the UCI Europe Tour. The competition was classified in category 1.2 and place in mid April. In addition, the race is part of the International German Championship for Men U23 category. Organizer of the event eV is the cycling club Düren.

The race course leads riders over about 160 kilometers through the northern Eifel region between Aachen and Cologne. In Düren, then a circular course must be four times orbits. Due to its location in April and by the very different microclimates in the Eifel, the race course is characterized often by a high weather-related drama.

So the winner of 1972, Dietrich Thurau came in the Youth A (Juniors today ) in a snowstorm on the final straight in Düren. The amateur winner of 1977, Daniel Willems, had to be rushed to the hospital Düren even from the award ceremony directly to prevent permanent damage from frostbite on the feet.

Record winner of the event is the two-time German Olympian Wilfried Trott with a total of three wins.
