Rustam Kazakov

Rustem Abdullajewitsch Kazakov (also Rustam Kazakov, Russian Рустем or Рустам Абдуллаевич Казаков, Uzbek Rustam Qozoqov; born January 2, 1947 in Tashkent) is a former Soviet wrestler. He was Olympic champion in 1972 in Munich.

Career

Rustem Kazakov, a Krimtatar, began as a teenager with the rings. He developed into an excellent wrestler in Greco-Roman wrestling and was delegated as a member of the military to the sports club of the army Tashkent. In 1967 he finished the major international " Ivan Podubbny " tournament in Moscow bantamweight 2nd place and was then sent to the European Championships in Bucharest. There he provided certain four good fights, but lost the experienced Romanians Ion Baciu and came to the not entirely satisfactory for a Soviet wrestler 7th Place. For this reason, he made his next bet until the World Championship 1969 in Mar del Plata ( Argentina). In this World Cup a tough three-way battle developed in the bantamweight for victory between Kazakov, David Hazewinkel from the U.S. and Ion Baciu, the Kazakov decided for himself and returned as a world champion in the Soviet Union.

At the World Championships in 1973 in Tehran Kazakov launched for the last time at an international championship and found his master in a new man, Józef Lipień from Poland, who beat him on points. He became vice world champion.
