Rutgers University

The Rutgers University, officially The State University of New Jersey, Rutgers short, is the largest institution for higher education in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The University main campus is located in the cities of New Brunswick and Piscataway. Two smaller campus located in Newark and Camden. Rutgers offers more than 100 undergraduate programs, 100 master's programs and 80 doctoral programs in 29 diploma awarded schools and colleges, 16 of which offer graduate programs. Rutgers University is one of the most prestigious public universities in the United States, the so-called Public Ivy, and is a member of the Association of American Universities, an existing association of leading research-intensive since 1900, North American universities. In the academic year 2013/14 go 26 Fulbright fellows on the Rutgers University which thus is ranked 3rd of Research Universities behind the Harvard University and the University of Michigan.

History

Today's university emerged from the Queen's College, founded in 1766, making it the eight - oldest institution of higher education in the United States. Originally, it was affiliated with the Dutch Reformed Church, but is no longer religiously oriented. In 1825 it acquired its current name in honor of their patron, Henry Rutgers, a hero of the Revolutionary War. The University main campus is located in the cities of New Brunswick and Piscataway. 1946 merged with Rutgers University of Newark, Newark campus today, and in 1950 with the College of South Jersey and South Jersey Law School, today Camden campus. Rutgers was declared the State University of New Jersey by acts of administration between 1945 and 1956.

The sports teams are the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights. The university is a member of the Big East Conference. As of July 1, 2014 a member of the Big Ten Conference.
