Ryō Hirakawa

Ryō Hirakawa (Japanese平川 亮, Ryo Hirakawa; born March 7, 1994) is a Japanese racing driver. It was 2012 Japanese Formula 3 champion. In 2013 he appears in the Super Formula.

Career

After Hirakawa began his motorsport career in karting, he moved in 2010 into formula racing. With two podium finishes, he was sixth in the Japanese Formula Challenge. In addition, he completed three guest appearances in the Formula BMW Pacific and reached here a fourth place as best result. Hirakawa 2011 remained in the Japanese Formula Challenge. With a win, he improved to second place. With 73 to 78 points he lost Takamoto Katsuta. 2012 received at Hirakawa RSS a cockpit in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship. He managed to win both races in his debut weekend. Overall, Hirakawa scored seven wins and thirteen podium finishes. Only two races he was not on the podium. With 118 to 103 points he won against Yuichi Nakayama and was Japanese Formula 3 champion. In addition, Hirakawa remained in the Japanese Formula Challenge. He won five races and had ten times in twelve races on the podium. With 91 points, he was at the end of the season tied with Nobuharu Matsushita. Since Matsushita had scored more second places, Hirakawa as last year was runner-up. He also appeared at the Macau Grand Prix 2012. He did not finish.

2013 moved to Hirakawa Team LeMans in the Super Formula. Already in the season opener, he scored an eighth place and thus a point. After the fourth race he finished tenth overall. In addition, Hirakawa graduated from Dale Coyne Racing in 2013 for test drives in the IndyCar Series.
