Sadam Ali

Sadam Ali ( born September 26, 1988 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American professional boxer.

Amateur career

Sadam Ali is the son of Muslim immigrants from Yemen. He started at the age of eight years at the Bed -Stuy Boxing Club in Bedford -Stuyvesant with the boxes. He was animated to his Yemeni compatriot "Prince" Naseem Hamed, who had become professional world featherweight champion in England.

Sadam Ali is now a member of Havoc Boxing clubs.

Even as a junior he was very successful and won, among other things the U.S. Junior Championship, was PAL Champion and Junior Olympic National Champion.

In 2006 he was in Chattanooga with a points victory over Rico Ramos won the National Golden Gloves in the Senior featherweight. In the United States Championship in 2006, however, he already defeated in the quarter- final against Luis Del Valle and thus finished 5th. His first try at an international championship graduated Sadam Ali at the Junior World Championship 2006 in Agadir. He won there over Yavheni Ramaschkewitsch from Belarus ( 22:12) and Paul Turcitu from Romania ( 27:12 ) on points, but lost in the quarterfinals against Yordan Frometa Gendry from Cuba just by points ( 39:41 ) and finished by the 5th Place.

In 2007, Sadam Ali again won the National Golden Goves title, but this time at lightweight with a points victory over Stan Martyniouk. But with the U.S. Championship in 2007, he retired again in the quarter- finals by a narrow point loss to Jerry Belmonte early from. He then won in August 2007, the U.S. Olympic excretion ( Trials ) in Houston lightweight. He won it on Terrence Crawford (17:12 ), Miguel Gonzales ( 23:13 ), Jerry Belmonte ( 32:23 ) and Miguel Gonzalez respectively on points.

At the 2007 World Championships in Chicago Sadam Ali won against José Pedraza first from Puerto Rico to points ( 25:17 ), but was defeated in the Round of 32 against Hravchik Javakhjan from Armenia to points ( 16:20 ) and retired. Far more successful he was with the subsequent test tournament for the Olympic Games in Beijing. He defeated there Jean Gomis of France ( 29:11 ), Francisco Vargas from Mexico ( 29:22 ) and Owethu Mbira from South Africa ( 26:10 ) on points and only lost in the final against Serik Scheleylow from Kazakhstan on points ( 17:30 ).

Kazakhstan - - After this tournament, a three-country Campaign USA was held in Zunyi / China China instead. Before this tournament doping tests were taken, in which the sample from Sadam Ali was positive. In his blood traces of the prohibited means " Cathin " were found. Normally, such a finding draws a two -year ban for all national and international struggles after themselves. Sadam Ali, however, managed the international boxing federation AIBA to convince them that he had to take medication in Zunyi because of an injury that has been mistakenly mixed with a drug that contained Cathin. The AIBA decreased then the lock on a quarter. This expired on 22 February 2008.

Sadam Ali was therefore the first American Qualifying Tournament in Port of Spain / Trinidad, participate and fought there with victories over Jesus Cuadro from Venezuela and Juan Nicolas Cuellas from Argentina the ticket to Beijing. The defeat in the final of this tournament against Yordenis Ugas from Cuba ( 5:13 ) played no role in the Olympic qualification.

At the Olympic Games in Beijing Sadam Ali lost his first fight against the same Romanians Georgian Popescu on points ( 5:20 ). He did not reach so that the round of 16 boxers and landed with all his losers round together on the 17th Place.

Professional career

Since January 2009 he has been active as a professional boxer and fights initially opposed construction opponent in order to adapt to the changing conditions in the professional camp. His first significant opponent was defeated 21 August 2010; he won by whacked in round 5 over former WBC Latino champion of Lenin Arroyo from Costa Rica.
