Sade Adu

Sade Adu [ ʃɑ ː deɪ ], OBE ( born January 16, 1959 in Ibadan, Nigeria as Helen Folasade Adu ) is a Nigerian- British smooth jazz, soul and R & B singer, and multiple Grammy winner. To date, she has sold over 50 million records.

Life

Sade Adu was the daughter of the Nigerian Bisi Adu and Briton Anne Hayes in Nigeria. After her parents separated, she came at the age of four years, together with her mother and her older brother Banji to Colchester, United Kingdom.

She studied fashion design and worked in London as a fashion model before moving into the music business in 1980. First, she sang with the group Arriva, followed by two years at Pride. There she met the saxophonist Stuart Matthewman, with whom she composed some pieces.

In 1987 she had a role in the film Absolute Beginners - Young heroes and sang in the song killer blow.

From 1989 to 1994 she was married to the Spanish film producer Carlos Scola, after which she lived with Jamaican producer Bob Morgan. On July 21, 1996 her daughter Ila was born.

Sade ( band )

Erroneously, it is widely believed that it is a solo artist with Sade. Sade Adu, however, occurs with three other musicians (since 1984 in the same line-up ) on.

In 1983, the band a demo tape with four songs on, including Your Love Is King and Smooth Operator. Initially, they were rejected by several record companies, because the music for " jazzy " sound and did not meet the then prevailing, characterized by the use of drum machines musical style. Only after Sade Adu was pictured on the cover of the magazine The Face and the band embarked on a very successful appearance at London nightclub Heaven, she received a recording contract with Epic Records. Within six weeks, 15 tracks were recorded in the studio, of which nine were finally on the debut album Diamond Life. Sade reserved the right to all decisions about the composition of the album and leaned against the resistance of the record company from several producers.

From the mid- 1980s, with its inspired by soul and jazz pop music Sade enjoyed great success. In 1984 she appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival and in 1985 at Live Aid. From Diamond Life over ten million copies of which almost four million in the U.S. have been sold worldwide. 1985 the band won their first Grammy. In 1994, the band another Grammy for the song No Ordinary Love, which to the film Indecent Proposal is also present in the soundtrack. On 5 February 2010, the eponymous album was released, it went to number 1 in Italy, France, Spain, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, the USA and some other countries. End of April 2011 launched Sade a new world tour. At the same time appeared under the title The Ultimate Collection is a double CD of their greatest hits, on the three new songs are included.
