Safi of Persia

Safi I ( * 1611, † May 12, 1642 in Kashan ) was from 1629 to 1642 the Safavid Shah of Iran.

Safi I., successor and grandson of Abbas I is said to have murdered many political opponents to maintain his power, even under the influence of his grand vizier Saru Taqi. In foreign policy, he succeeded in 1639 by the Treaty of Qasr -e Shirin with the Ottomans. I. Safi died in 1642 in Kashan and is buried in Qom.
