The Oasia (ex Saga Ruby, Caronia, Vista Fjord ) is a former cruise ship, which was operated until January 2014 by the cruise line Saga Shipping Company.

History

Today's Oasia arose on the British shipyard Swan Hunter Shipbuilders in Wallsend Yard No. 39 and was under the name Vista Fjord on 15 May 1973 to the Norwegian shipping company NAL Amerikalinje Norske (Norwegian America Line ) delivered. This ran it along with her older sister ship Saga Fjord in the global cruise program.

In May 1980, both ships were transferred to the subsidiary NAC Norwegian American Cruises. 1981-1982 the Vista Fjord became known as the " Love Boat " on German television to a wide audience.

In October 1983, the NAC was taken over by the Cunard Line, and the Vista Fjord was taken to ride along with the Saga Fjord under the flag of the Bahamas. In December 1999, Cunard had the Vista Fjord for five million U.S. $ and renovate the ship -based as Caronia under the British flag in Southampton. She was thus the third ship, which was given this name.

Cunard sold the Caronia in July 2004 to the shipping company Acromas Shipping, a subsidiary of the British company Acromas Travel, which eventually rechristened the ship Saga Ruby and operation together with the also vice baptized sister ship Saga Rose. After the modernization in a Maltese Throw the Saga Ruby ran out for their first cruise in March 2005. The ship was transferred to the ship's registry of Malta in July 2010 and remained until 2013 in the ship management of Acromas Shipping. In the last operating year 2013/ 14, the ship sailed under the management of V.Ships Leisure. By January 2014, the Saga Ruby was operated as a cruise ship, the final journey ended on January 9 in Southampton.

New use as a hotel ship

The ship was sold for 14 million U.S. dollars and the company Millennium View Limited ( a subsidiary of a Singapore company ), suggested the ship 's management FleetPro Ocean from Miami. It is planned to use the, now called Oasia and registered in the Bahamas ship as a hotel ship in Myanmar.

Machinery and drive

The Saga Ruby is driven by two slow-moving nine-cylinder two-stroke marine diesel engines of type Sulzer RD68, which were built by George Clark & North Eastern Marine license and transfer their power through wave systems directly to the two fixed-pitch propellers. For the power supply on board seven diesel generators from Bergen Diesel and Cummins and an emergency generator by Caterpillar are available.
