Salvador Artigas

Salvador Artigas Sahún ( born February 23, 1913 in Barcelona, † 6 September 1997 in Benidorm) was a Spanish football player and coach.

Career

Artigas played in his youth for FC Barcelona. Due to the outbreak of civil war in Spain, he emigrated to France in 1938 and played for Girondins Bordeaux. After one season, he moved to Le Mans UC, where he remained for five years until he joined Rennes in 1944. In 1949 he went back to Spain for the Basque club Real Sociedad. Three years later he became player-manager of Stade Rennes.

When in 1955 he finished his playing career at Rennes, the Catalans took over immediately afterwards for five years as coach at Real Sociedad. Between 1960 and 1967, Artigas coach of Girondins Bordeaux. There his team in 1965 and 1966 at least twice was runner-up behind FC Nantes. His next coach station, the only one in which he was able to record one success after winning the Spanish Cup, was the FC Barcelona from 1967 until 1969. During his first season at Barcelona, ​​1967/68, he won with the club said cup and was Spanish runner-up. In the following season Artigas resigned after just five league games as coach of FC Barcelona. In 1969, he coached the Spanish national team for four matches in which 2 wins and 1 draw has been made. Later, he was coach of FC Elche, Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla FC.
