Salvatore Camarata

Salvatore " Tutti " Camarata ( born May 11, 1913 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, † April 20, 2005 in Burbank, California ) was an American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, arranger, composer and music producer.

Life and work

Camarata began his career as a trumpeter Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey, as well as Benny Goodman; Finally, he was lead trumpeter and arranger with Jimmy Dorsey. He also arranged for Glen Gray and the Casa Loma Orchestra, Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington. He also orchestrated a recording session by violinist Jascha Heifetz. In 1944, he worked for the British Decca and helped found London Records with. He orchestrated at recording sessions of classical music of Puccini, Verdi, Bach, Bizet, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov. In 1956, he joined Walt Disney, for whom he served the label Disney Records and to 1972 as its musical director and producer, mostly musical, Easy Listening and children's records. For Disney he laid in 1957 under his own name the jazz album Tutti 's Trumpets ago that involved, inter alia, Conrad Gozzo, Manny Klein, Pete Candoli, Uan Rasey, and Shorty Sherock. In 1958 he built the studio complex Sunset Sound Recorders for Disney, where he produced over 300 albums, including by George Bruns. Camarata also served as musical director of several television series and shows like Star Time, The Vic Damone Show and The Alcoa Hour. In 1981, he acquired the studio The Sound Factory, where artists such as Linda Ronstadt, Ringo Starr, Dolly Parton, Oingo Boingo, Brian Wilson, The Jackson Five, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lostprophets and The Vines recordings.

2003 Disney Legends award, he was awarded.
