San Michele Salentino

San Michele Salentino is a village with 6359 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in Italy in the region of Apulia, Brindisi.

The neighboring municipalities are Ceglie Messapica, Francavilla Fontana, Latiano, Ostuni, San Vito dei Norman.

History

San Michele Salentino developed from the Good Masseria Nova, which was founded in the late 18th century. In 1861 the town had a population of about 850 inhabitants, which grew rapidly. 1901 lived there for over 2500 inhabitants. This year, the city gained independence as a church community. The town was awarded in 1913 after violent protests by the population partial autonomy in 1928, he was also a municipality of San Vito dei Norman spun off independently.
