Sanak Island

Sanak Iceland is a small uninhabited island in the Fox Islands, which belong to the Aleutian Islands. The 21 km -long island is located in the west of the Fox Islands.

The island was an insignificant base of the American armed forces during the Second World War. Abandoned military equipment, shipwrecks, and the abandoned settlement Pauloff Harbor are still silent witnesses of past human existence. Today, the island is occasionally visited by the natives of the Aleutian Islands to hunt or go fishing the local on the island of wild cattle herds. In addition to cattle live on Sanak different species of birds, sea otters and horses.

In today uninhabited island, archaeologists have found remains of human habitation dating back to 5600 BC.
