Santillana del Mar

Santillana del Mar is a town in the northern Spanish autonomous community of Cantabria.

Geography

The town with 4215 inhabitants ( 2013) located 82 m above sea level in the Gulf of Biscay on an area of ​​28.46 km ² in the county ( comarca ) Costa Occidental as well as in the judicial district Torrelavega. The nearest large city of Santander is 31 km away. Guide call this place also the Rothenburg ob der Tauber Spain.

Santillana del Mar is a station on the Way of St. James ( Camino del Norte).

Climate

The climate is maritime and humid with cool summers and mild winters according to the coastal area.

Attractions

  • Centuries-old center with the Collegiate de Santillana del Mar ( Collegiate Church of St. Juliana, Sant Iuliana - Santillana ), who gave the city its name, as well as numerous trade houses and palaces. Throughout the Old City there is an absolute ban.
