Saratovsky District

The Saratowski rayon (Russian Саратовский район ) is a raion in Russia's Saratov Oblast. The administrative center is the district-free city of Saratov, which is also the capital of the Saratov Oblast.

Geography and Nature

Geographical location

The Saratowski rayon is centrally located in the Saratov Oblast and surrounds the city of Saratov semicircular. The Rajon located on the western bank of the Volga River in the mountain ranges of the Volga plate. The slopes of the hills are heavily wooded.

The Rajon divided into two townships to urban-type settlements and ten rural communities with a total of 77 villages. The largest villages (as of 2006) within the raion are:

The administrative center of the Rajons, the city of Saratov ( Саратов ) with over 800,000 inhabitants, does not belong even to Rajon, secretes forms a separate urban district.

Economy and infrastructure

Economy

In Rajon there are different natural resources that are developed. This affects the production of oil, natural gas and various building materials. There are companies from the textile industry and steel industry.

Agriculture focuses on intensive livestock farming, poultry farming and the cultivation of cereals, sunflower and various vegetables and fruits.
