Saturnin

Saturninus ( Sernin French ) was the first Bishop of Toulouse, its patronal feast is November 29th ( Protestant and Roman Catholic day of remembrance ). He was one of seven bishops consecrated men who were sent by Gregory of Tours ( 538-594 ) at the time of the Emperor Decius, so in the years 249-251 to the mission to Gaul, where he located on a 5th from the century Passio Saturninus relates, which was widespread in the sphere of the Visigoths. The other missionaries were: Gatianus of Tours, Trophimus of Arles, Paul of Narbonne, Dionysius of Paris, Stremonius of Auvergne and Martial of Limoges, which are each the first bishops of their diocese.

To Saturninus reported Gregor, moreover, that he had already preached in Toulouse in the year 250.

Besides Dionysius was Saturninus the only of the seven missionaries who were martyred: after he was arrested, he was brought to the Capitol (today still known as the Town Hall of Toulouse), where he tied to the tail of an angry bull and from the Capitol down was dragged to his death.

Saturninus was buried in a necropolis outside the city, his successor Hilary ( 358-360 ) was built on the site of a wooden oratory, which they called the church of St -Saturnin- du- Taur, now Notre -Dame- du- Taur, replaced been. The relics have already been transferred to 400 in the Basilica of St Sernin de Toulouse, could build the Hilary 's successor Silvius ( 360-400 ) and Exuperius ( 405-411 ).
