Saulx, Haute-Saône

Saulx is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté. It is the capital of the canton in the Arrondissement Saulx Lure.

Geography

Saulx situated at an altitude of 301 m above sea level, about 12 km northeast of the city of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, a scenic location on a promontory east of the basin of Saulx, between the valleys of the south and Bognon Durgeon in the northwest.

The area of ​​15.12 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the pelvic region of Saulx. The western part of the area occupied by the Alluvialniederung of Durgeon, which is on average 230 m. It has a width of approximately 1.5 km. The municipal area of Durgeon inflow from the Ruisseau de Bognon flowing through a broad valley south of Saulx receives. Agricultural land use predominates here.

South of the Ruisseau de Bognon, the municipality's area extends down to the forested hills of Bois Charmont (336 m) and Bois de Saulx. With 375 m find the highest mountains of Saulx is achieved. To the east of the valley of Durgeon the plateau of Saulx follows, which reaches a height of around 300 m. It runs in a narrow lead in Saulx. In geological- tectonic terms, the terrain consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). In some places, is also evident sandstone and limestone from the Triassic. In the far south, in the area of the Bois de Saulx stands on a resistant limestone layer of the middle Jurassic period.

  • La Méchère (233 m) at the mouth of Ruisseau de Bognon in the Durgeon
  • La Montoillotte (245 m) on a terrace south of the Durgeon

Neighboring communities of Saulx are Mailleroncourt- Charette and Servigney in the north, Genevrey, Châteney and Châtenois and Creveney in the east, Colombotte, Calmoutier and Montcey in the south as well as Colombier and La Villeneuve- Bellenoye -et -la -maize in the west.

History

Finds of graves from the Merovingian period point to an early settlement of the area. Is first mentioned Saulx in 1143. During the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The domination of Saulx held the Lords of Faucogney, who provided a local noble family with it. Saulx developed into a medieval borough. The Templar Coming of La Villedieu had land in Saulx. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Saulx is the administrative seat of the comprehensive 17 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Saulx.

Attractions

The church Saint -Martin was built in 1850 in neo-gothic style on the site of the old temple from the 12th century. In-room amenities include a large painting of St. Martin (18th century), a small organ (19th century), paneling in the Louis XV style in the choir and several grave slabs. With 876 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Saulx belongs to the medium-sized towns in the Haute- Saône. Economy and infrastructure

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road N57, which runs from Vesoul to Luxeuil -les- Bains. Further road links exist with Conflans -sur- Lanterne, Velleminfroy, Calmoutier and La Villeneuve. By municipality, the railway line runs from Belfort to Vesoul. The nearest train station is in Creveney.
