Montcey

Montcey is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Montcey situated at an altitude of 327 m above sea level, 7 km east-northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, on a plateau east of the basin of Vesoul, between the valleys of Durgeon in the north and in the south Colombine.

The area of ​​8.12 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the area of ​​the hill country between the basin of Vesoul and the level of Lure. The main part of the area is taken from the plateau of Montcey, which is an average 330 m. It shows a loose structure of arable and meadow land and forest land. To the north the plateau drops steeply to the valley of Durgeon; the line runs above the escarpment. Along the town limits there are larger forest areas in the west of the Grand Bois de Comberjon (up to 330 m), south of the Bois de la Craye and east of the Bois du Mont Aubry ( 363 m). With a narrow strip, the municipality's area extends north-eastwards to the summit of the Côte Rouge. With 400 m find the highest mountains of Montcey is achieved. The plateau consists of a resistant limestone layer of the middle Jurassic period. There are on the whole area no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. For various karst phenomena are to be found, including the Grotto of Équevillons.

Neighboring communities of Montcey are Colombier and Saulx in the north, Calmoutier in the east, Colombe- lès- Vesoul and Frotey -lès- Vesoul in the south and Comberjon in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Montcey belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Montaigu. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Montcey is a member of the 19 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes de l' agglomà de Vesoul.

Attractions

The village church of Saint- Juste was built in the 18th century. At the northern end of the village which is a chapel in the Gothic Revival style. It was built in 1875 for a statue of the Virgin Mary, which was in 1854 erected in gratitude for the sparing of the cholera epidemic which ravaged the region in mid -19th century. In the center is a house from the 15th century.

Population

With 224 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Montcey one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 332 persons were still counted ), was re- recorded a continuous growth of population in the early 1970s to 1990. Since then, small fluctuations were only observed.

Economy and infrastructure

Montcey was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the agglomeration Vesoul.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Colombier after Dampvalley -lès -Colombe. Further road links exist with Frotey -lès- Vesoul and Comberjon.
