Villeparois

Villeparois is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Villeparois situated at an altitude of 234 m above sea level, about 5 km north- northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department in which the Talniederung Bâtard, at the western foot of the heights of the Fanicamp.

The area of ​​3.32 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the area of ​​the hill country between the basin of Vesoul and the level of Lure. From north to south the area is crossed by the valley of the Bâtard, which provides for drainage to Durgeon. It flows here with several turns through a 500 -meter-wide flood plain that is on average 225 m.

Flanked the valley of Bâtard on both sides by hills, which consist of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments of the lower and middle Jurassic period. West of Bâtard rise the peaks of the Mont Soleil and Soufflotis, in the east there is a hill of Fanicamp at which 345 m is the highest point of Villeparois is achieved. To the north, the municipality's area extends into the valley of the Ruisseau des Vénards, a left tributary of the Bâtard, and in the Bois la Dame ( to 295 m). The area is primarily used for agricultural purposes.

Neighboring communities of Villeparois are Auxon and Flagy in the north, Colombier in the east, the south and Coulevon Pusy- et- Épenoux in the West.

History

Is mentioned in a document Villeparois in 1144 under the name of Villa perreti. Over time, followed the spellings Villa Petri ( 1242 ), Villeperrat ( 1264 ), Villeperrot ( 1380 ), Velleperet (1450 ) and Vyleparoy (1711 ). The place name is derived from the Latin words villa (estate ) and peter ( stony). Since the 10th century, the church of Villeparois was subordinate to the monastery of Luxeuil. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local rule passed in 1264 also at the monastery of Luxeuil. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Villeparois is a member of the 19 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes de l' agglomà de Vesoul.

Attractions

The Chapel of Villeparois contains statues of the Holy Altenvalbert and John (16th century) and of Saints Anne and Mary ( 18th century).

Population

With 214 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Villeparois one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1891 115 people were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the 1970s again. Since then, the population has tripled.

Economy and infrastructure

Villeparois was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the agglomeration Vesoul.
