Vilory

Vilory is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vilory situated at an altitude of 270 m above sea level, about 13 km north- northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, in the northwest of the basin of Saulx, on a slightly inclined to the southeast slope above the little valley of the Ruisseau de Bâtard.

The area of ​​4.15 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the pelvic region of Saulx. The southern part of the area occupied by the basin of the Ruisseau de Bâtard, which provides for drainage southeast to Durgeon. To the north of the basin includes the gently sloping hillside of Vilory, which is used primarily for agricultural purposes. Further north, the municipality's area extends into the forested areas of the Bois de Vellefrie and the Bois de Vilory. With 395 m is achieved in the height of the forest Homme Dessus the highest elevation of Vilory. In geological- tectonic terms, the terrain consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). In some places, also limestone comes to light from the Middle Triassic.

Neighboring communities of Vilory are Neurey -en- Vaux in the north, La Villeneuve- Bellenoye -et -la- Maize in the east, the south and Vellefrie Varogne in the West.

History

Remains of a Roman road path that led from Luxeuil to Langres, point to an early inspection of the area. In the Middle Ages Vilory belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Villeneuve. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In 1714 the inhabitants were granted certain liberties.

Attractions

The Mairie ( Municipal House ) is equipped with a small bell tower. Vilory has a sheltered outdoor Lavoir from the 19th century, which once served as a laundry and watering cattle.

Population

With 85 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Vilory one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1911 125 people were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Vilory is still a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Varogne after Mailleroncourt- Charette. Further road links exist with Neurey -en- Vaux and La Villeneuve.
