Coulevon

Coulevon is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Coulevon situated at an altitude of 225 m above sea level, about 3 km northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department in which Talniederung at the mouth of Bâtard in the Durgeon, at the northern foot of the plateau of the sabot.

The area of ​​2.66 km ² municipal area includes a section in the area of the hill country between the basin of Vesoul and the level of Lure. From north to south the area is crossed by the valley of the Bâtard which opens at Coulevon in the Durgeon. This ensures the drainage of the Saône. It flows here with several turns by about one kilometer wide flood plain that is on average 220 ​​m. Section, he marks the southern boundary. East of the village is a cave (3 to 4 m high and 20 m long).

Flanked the valley of Bâtard on both sides by hills, which consist of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments of the lower and middle Jurassic period. History

In the Middle Ages Coulevon belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the viscounts of Vesoul. Even the Priory Marteroy had land in the village. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Coulevon is a member of the 19 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes de l' agglomà de Vesoul.

Attractions

The Chapel of Coulevon was rebuilt in the 19th century. In-room amenities include a high altar, statues, a painting by Jules -Alexis Muenier and a remarkable bas-relief of the 15th century. The castle in the center of the village was the residence of the painter Muenier. Above Coulevon is a statue of the Virgin Mary.

Population

With 194 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Coulevon one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1906 191 persons were still counted ), was from 1950 to 1982 again recorded significant population growth. Since then, there is again a slight downward trend.

Economy and infrastructure

Coulevon was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses, including a gypsum plant. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the agglomeration Vesoul.
