Varogne

Varogne is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Varogne situated at an altitude of 262 m above sea level, about 11 km north- northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, in the northeast of the basin of Vesoul, on a slightly inclined towards the south slope above the little valley of the Ruisseau de Vienne.

The area of ​​4.41 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the pelvic region of Vesoul. The southern part of the area occupied by the basin of the Ruisseau de Vienne, which provides for drainage southwest to Bâtard. To the north of the valley, the plateau of Varogne follows, which is on average 270 m. It is used predominantly agricultural and runs eastward across the basin of Saulx. The eastern boundary runs in the region of Haut de Chenevières ( 296 m). To the north, the municipality's area extends into the forested areas of the Bois de Revreuge and the Bois de la Bataille. With 330 m find the highest mountains of Varogne is achieved. In geological- tectonic respect, there is this section of the terrain from an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ).

Neighboring communities of Varogne are Neurey -en- Vaux in the north, Vilory in the east, and Vellefrie Flagy in the south and Le Val -Saint- Eloi in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Varogne belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Varogne is a member of the comprehensive six localities municipal association Communauté de communes of Six Villages.

Attractions

The village church of Varogne was rebuilt in the 18th century and has a tower in the Imperial style. Also from this period comes the version of the source Fontaine Voyo.

Population

With 138 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Varogne one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 252 persons were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Varogne is still a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Vesoul to Saint -Loup- sur- Semouse. Further road links exist with Vellefrie and Vilory.
